The pink sea fan Eunicella verrucosa is one of the most widely distributed species of corals in Europe. We can find it in the Atlantic Ocean from Ireland, France, Spain down to Africa and in the mediterranean Sea. But it is also the species that is most frequently ending up dying in fishing nets. That why it is already listed in the Red List of Threatened Species. Despite its status there is no additional protection for this species in Europe. Neither is there any preservation plan. When the pink sea fan dies, millions of other associated species will die with it. Naturally it forms dense coral forest that protect and give habitat like the tropical rain forest does on land.  

We are mapping the underwater distribution of the sea fans to locate hotspots and then claim a protection of those areas. With your donation through a coral adoption you not only help us to save corals from the nets but also to prevent high by-catch rates in the future!
